At first glance, she appears no different from the woman seen by anyone else.

Look closer, however, and her image is revealed to be reconstructed from the very elements that hold my attention most strongly. The portrait therefore exists on two levels: a public appearance and a private interpretation. The work reflects the idea that perception is never entirely neutral. We may look at the same person, yet each of us quietly rebuilds that person through our own attention, desire, memory, and meaning.
