#writings

Today, in front of the library at Yonsei University in Sinchon, I had a wonderful conversation with an impressive woman about my work and the philosophy behind it. She was remarkably kind and intellectually engaging, and I found myself becoming completely absorbed in our conversation. I also gave her the address of this website, so there is a chance that she may one day come across this very piece.

For context, some of the texts published in the “Writing” section of this website are direct expressions of my own thoughts, while others are works written deliberately from the perspective of an observer. The distinction between the two may not always be immediately apparent. After all, both ultimately originate from me.

I have a profound interest in the combination—or perhaps the broader network of meanings—surrounding sleeveless clothing, exposed underarms, and tickling. At the same time, I am equally interested in critically examining questions such as the sexual objectification of women, the male gaze, and the complex relationship between fetishism and feminism, and in exploring how these concepts might be interpreted and applied in new ways. These interests ultimately find their expression in a variety of provocative artistic works.

Why do some women feel self-conscious or embarrassed about exposing their underarms? And why, despite that self-consciousness, do they still choose to wear sleeveless clothing? This curious coexistence of self-expression and an awareness of being seen strikes me as a fascinating subject—one that opens up broader questions about the body, social perception, vulnerability, and personal agency.

As a man, I want to continue examining how the male gaze and fetishistic desire operate, how they are expressed, and how they shape perception, while also attempting to understand the psychological experience of women themselves. Does that not already sound fascinating?

Looking deeply into one’s own inner world—carefully observing it, dismantling its assumptions piece by piece, and then reconstructing them—is never an easy task. Yet precisely because it is difficult, I believe it is worth attempting.

If you have any questions about my research or artistic work, would like to know more, or would simply like to have a detailed conversation with me—online or in person—about the male gaze, fetishism, and the ideas explored here, please feel free to contact me at the email address below.

I look forward to hearing from you.
